Surgical management of maxillofacial deformities requires an accurate preoperative & postoperative analysis of skeletal and soft tissue morphology. The basic planning should include clinical & photographic evaluation, dental study model,
cephalometric
analysis, mock surgery, Preoperative & postoperative cephalometric analysis is beneficial to the diagnosis & treatment planning of patients with maxillofacial anomalies.
From January, 1993 to December, 1994, we have experienced 30 cases with maxillofacial reconstruction due to maxillofacial deformities with class III malocclusion. We made cephalometric mock surgery for prediction of skeletal profile change, which
was
compared with postoperative cephalometric analysis. The mean differences between cephalometric mock surgery and postoperative cephalometric analysis were 1.7¢ªin SNA, 2.5¢ªin SNR, 2.0¢ªin ABN, 1.9¢ªin UI-SN, 2.1¢ªin LI-MP.
So we can use cephalometric mock surgery very usefully in planning the operation and predicting the prognosis preoperatively.
